Mukutmanipur: A place to visit

Travel Blog by Malay Kumar

A place where all ready visited nearly every person from West Bengal. Mukutmanipur is also one of West Bengal's top tourist attractions, located in the Bankura district of West Bengal. That's why if you are planning to visit Bengal, then it is a must-visit place. Not just one but plenty of attraction are there like the Kangsabati river, Mukutmanipur dam, Susunia hill, Musafirana park, Pareshnath hill, Banpukuria Deer park etc.

Mukutmanipur is nearly 220 km away from Kolkata. You can pick up a train from Howrah station and it will take only 5 hours to reach your destination. There are mainly 6 trains like Rupashi Bangla Express, Howrah - Purulia SF Express, Rani Shiramoni Fast Passenger, Howrah - Chakradharpur Fast Passenger, Aranyak Express and Howrah - Bokaro Steel City Passenger. Most of the train runs daily. Also, you can reach Mukutmanipur by bus.

After reaching the Bankura station you can pick a private car or Bus to go there. When you intend to go there in winter, I strongly recommend you to book a hotel early in the month of mid-December or Christmas, as this is the best tourism season or you can take your hotel booking guidance from your car driver.

Mukutmanipur is not only popular for its earthen dam, but also it is the second-largest dam in our country. This place is around 70 km away from another famous destination Bishnupur which is also known as Temple city.

Mukutmanipur Dam was constructed under Dr. Bidhan Ch Roy, former Bengal Chief Minister. Now it is for the tourists a highly developed zone. The bridge over the dam, especially at night, is a beautiful view. You can go on a boat at night to enjoy the sunset across the dam's waters. This dam was constructed over the river Kangsabati, the other draw of Bankura.

Kangsabati River is also known as the cossey River. It rises from the Chota Nagpur plateau and moving through three districts of West Bengal - Purulia, Bankura, and West Midnapur. You can enjoy the river by taking the boat drive and it is going to cost you almost 150 - 200 rupees per hour.

There is another attraction near Mukutmanipur, Susunia Hill. It is a place of archeological significance and a base of climbing the rocks. The entire hill is surrounded with magnificent shrubbery, impressive trees and other uncommon plants with lush flora.

It is a perfect place for those people who want a combination of both - adventure and relaxation. I visited this place for the third time and every time I enjoy it. So, I will suggest you to go there and enjoy your next weekend with both River and Hill.
